SF Moves Fail at the Curb, Not in the Truck
Most San Francisco moves go wrong before a single box gets lifted. The mover forgot the SFMTA permit, the building's freight elevator slot expires while loading drags on, the truck can't fit on the Noe Valley one-way, the parking ticket is already on the windshield. The crew can be excellent and the move can still lose three hours.
The SFMTA permit was never pulled.
Most SF residential moves need a Temporary No-Parking Permit from SFMTA. Permits start at $239 and need 5 business days notice — 7–10 in peak season. Movers who leave it to the customer at the last minute show up with no legal parking and lose hours circling, or eat tickets.
The freight elevator slot runs out mid-move.
SOMA, Mission Bay, and South Beach high-rises require booked elevator slots in 2–4 hour windows. Crews that don't load order the truck or confirm the slot in advance run over, get bumped, and finish in the lobby.
The truck stalls on a Noe Valley hill restart.
Noe Valley, Castro, and Pacific Heights have steep streets. Inexperienced drivers on a fully loaded 26-foot truck damage the truck, the load, or themselves trying to restart on a grade. Customer property goes with it.
Sound familiar? In SF, the move starts at the parking sign — not the front door.

Family-Owned
Since 2019
Cross-Bay Service Without Cross-Bay Pricing
JH Moving is family-owned, Latino-owned, and based in Richmond. We dispatch our SF crews from the East Bay, which means customers get the same licensed full-service mover as the big SF-based companies without paying for SF-based overhead. We're across the Bay Bridge in under 30 minutes outside of peak, and our crews are in SF every week — running Mission walk-ups, Pacific Heights condos, Sunset houses, and SOMA high-rises.
What that looks like for your SF move:
We Show Up Every Single Time
We respect your time. When we commit to a move date and time, we're there. No last-minute cancellations, no no-shows, no excuses.
Transparent Hourly Pricing. No Hidden Fees. Ever.
With JH Moving, you know how pricing works before the job begins. We walk you through the hourly rate, minimums, and any quoted charges upfront so there are zero surprises on moving day.
Your Belongings Are Treated Like Our Own

Happy movers do better work. We take care of our team so they take care of you every time.
We are licensed under Cal-T201700, verifiable through the BHGS license lookup, and we carry full cargo and liability insurance on every job. Hablamos Español. We pay our crews above industry standard because Pacific Heights elevator coordination and Noe Valley hill restarts demand experienced drivers.

The Embarcadero, Montgomery, and 16th Mission BART stations anchor much of the cross-bay commute pattern, and the Bay Bridge sets our East-Bay-to-SF routing every workday.

Frequently Asked Questions
Local San Francisco moves are billed under California Maximum Rate Tariff 4 — hourly rates plus double drive time between origin and destination. For a typical one-bedroom SF apartment with a three-person crew and a 26-foot truck, expect 4–6 hours of total billable time, plus the SFMTA Temporary No-Parking Permit ($239 minimum, plus $18 per metered space per day as of July 2025) and any disclosed stair work or elevator coordination.
We give every SF customer a written quote after a walkthrough — by video or in person — that includes the permit. That quote is a ceiling under California law. Unless you sign a Change Order adding scope, you cannot be charged more.
