What Every Long Distance Move Includes
Every long distance move comes with a dedicated crew, a full-size truck, moving blankets, shrink wrap, tape, crew tools, and straps, plus up to 2 TV boxes and 5 wardrobe boxes for use during the move. Packing paper, bubble wrap, dish boxes, and additional boxes are part of our paid packing service and quoted upfront. Standard furniture gets disassembled at the old place and reassembled at the new one. Appliance and fixture disconnection should be handled by a licensed professional before the crew arrives.
We give you a binding estimate before we load a single box. The price we quote is the price you pay with no fuel surcharges, no stair fees, and no revised weight games at delivery.
Licensed under Cal-T201700 with full cargo and liability coverage. Basic coverage is $0.60 per pound, and third-party extra coverage is available for high-value items.
Need help packing before the move? Our full-service packing team wraps and boxes everything so it arrives in the same shape it left.

How Long Distance Move Costs Work
Long distance moves within California are priced differently from local hourly moves. Instead of a straight hourly rate, pricing is based on the size of your home, the distance, and the services included. The binding estimate we give you covers all of it before anything is loaded.
For reference, Bay Area to Los Angeles moves typically run $2,500 to $5,000 for a standard home, and Bay Area to Sacramento moves are significantly less given the shorter distance. Those ranges shift based on how much you are moving and what services are added.
The biggest things that affect the final number are home size, how much furniture and how many boxes are coming, access conditions on both ends, and whether packing is included. Just like with local moves, stairs, long walks from door to truck, and elevator logistics all add time and cost on loading and unloading days.
Preparation matters here too. The more packed and ready your home is when the crew arrives for loading, the more efficient the day goes. For customers who would rather not deal with any of it, our full-service packing team handles everything before move day so the loading crew can work straight through.
What to Watch Out For When Hiring a Long Distance Mover
Long distance moving attracts more bad actors than local moving, and the consequences are worse because your belongings are on a truck heading hundreds of miles away.
Non-binding estimates. Some companies quote low to win the job, then raise the price after your belongings are loaded, claiming the weight came in higher than expected. A binding estimate means the price does not change. Always ask upfront whether the estimate is binding.
Brokers posing as movers. Some companies take your booking and hand the job off to a subcontracted crew you have never met. You have no idea who is handling your belongings or what their track record is. Ask specifically whether the company that gives you the estimate is also the crew loading and driving the truck.
Vague delivery windows. National carriers often give 2-week delivery windows. For in-state California moves, that is not acceptable. You should know exactly when your belongings are arriving.
No license number. Any mover transporting household goods within California must hold a valid California moving license. Ask for the license number and verify it through BHGS before signing anything. Ours is Cal-T201700.
The FMCSA Protect Your Move guide is worth reading if you are comparing movers or considering a move that crosses state lines. The California moving consumer rights page from BHGS covers what licensed movers must provide for in-state moves.
Long Distance Routes From the Bay Area
Bay Area to Sacramento is our most frequent long distance route. Richmond sits right on the I-80 corridor, which means we dispatch directly without extra staging. Whether you are moving to Midtown, Elk Grove, or Roseville, we run this route regularly and can give you a specific delivery date.
Bay Area to Los Angeles is our second busiest route. The drive runs about 6 hours via I-5. We handle full-home relocations from Oakland, Richmond, and San Francisco down to LA, Orange County, and San Diego. You get a specific delivery date, not a window.
For local Bay Area moves that do not require long distance service, see our full-service residential moving. If you need storage between homes, our full-service storage keeps your items wrapped and protected until you are ready.
