What Makes Fragile Item Moving Different

Standard moving crews wrap everything the same way and load the truck the same way regardless of what is inside. That works for couches and mattresses. It does not work for a hand-painted oil canvas, a marble-top console, or a china set passed down through the family.

Fragile and specialty item moving starts before the truck arrives. The crew inspects each piece, identifies where it can break, and chooses the right protection method. Glass tabletops get foam corners and cardboard sheaths. Antique wood furniture gets padded blankets secured with shrink wrap, and no tape ever touches the finish. Chandeliers are disassembled arm by arm, wrapped individually, and boxed upright.

Inside the truck, fragile items load last and sit in secured positions where they cannot shift. Ratchet straps hold everything in place. Heavy items go on the floor. Artwork stands vertically in padded slots. Nothing stacks on top of glass.

We're licensed under Cal-T201700 with full cargo and liability insurance. Every item we move is covered.

How Fragile Item Moving Works

  1. Get your free estimate. Call (510) 495-1884 or fill out our online form. Tell us what you're moving — antiques, artwork, large mirrors, decorative glass, glass furniture, chandeliers, china. Photos help us plan the right crew and materials before we show up.

  2. We arrive with the right protection. The crew brings blankets, foam, shrink wrap, mirror cartons, and crating materials matched to your specific items. Floor runners and door frame guards go down first to protect your home, and each piece gets wrapped and padded before it moves an inch.

  3. Delivered and placed with care. At the destination, we carry each item to its room, unwrap it, and place it exactly where you want it. Nothing gets left on the truck or set down in the wrong room.

What We Commonly Move

Not every mover will take on high-value or specialty items. Here is what we handle regularly:

  • Antique furniture including armoires, buffets, and pieces with original glass doors or delicate finishes
  • Artwork and framed pieces including oil paintings, large canvases, and gallery-quality prints
  • Glass furniture including tabletops, display cases, and china cabinets
  • Chandeliers disassembled, wrapped by component, and reassembled at the destination
  • Marble surfaces including console tables, dining tables, and vanity tops that cannot flex during transport
  • China, crystal, and glassware wrapped and boxed individually with packing paper and bubble wrap
  • Large mirrors and decorative glass moved with mirror cartons, rigid edge support, and crew trained for stairwells and tight doorways

If you are unsure whether we handle something specific, call us and ask.

Protecting Fragile Items Before Move Day

How items are prepared before the truck arrives matters as much as how they are loaded. A few things worth knowing:

Original packaging is the best packaging. If you still have the box a piece of art or electronics came in, use it. The foam inserts are molded to the item and nothing aftermarket matches that fit.

Marble and glass need rigid support. These materials do not flex, so any pressure on the wrong point can crack them. They should be transported vertically when possible and never laid flat with weight on top.

Oil paintings cannot be wrapped too tightly. Shrink wrap applied directly to an oil painting can pull the paint from the canvas. Paintings need a layer of glassine or acid-free paper first, then padding around the frame.

Antique finishes are not the same as modern ones. Tape, rubber, and some plastics can react with older lacquers and varnishes. If you have antique furniture, tell us before the crew wraps it.

If you want everything professionally packed before move day, our fragile item packing team handles wrapping and boxing for china, crystal, glassware, and artwork with materials quoted upfront. For full white-glove treatment from start to finish, ask about our white-glove moving service.

Fragile Item Moving Across the Bay Area

In Oakland, we move antique furniture and artwork out of Victorian and Craftsman homes with narrow doorways and steep interior staircases. Getting a large framed mirror down a curved stairway in Rockridge takes precise angles and experienced hands.

In Berkeley, longtime residents and professors own collections of rare books, vintage instruments, and gallery-quality art built up over decades. Dense hillside neighborhoods with tight turns and steep driveways sometimes mean hand-carrying pieces from the front door to the truck. There is no room for shortcuts.

In Walnut Creek, larger homes mean more specialty items per move. Marble-top tables, wine collections, chandeliers, and full china cabinets are common in Rossmoor and surrounding neighborhoods.

We also handle cross-bay moves into San Francisco, where oversized mirrors in Pacific Heights, antique mirrors in painted ladies, and floor-to-ceiling artwork in SoMa lofts all require careful handling through steep hills, narrow stairwells, and building elevators with strict scheduling windows.

Before trusting any mover with irreplaceable items, it is worth reviewing the California moving consumer rights page from BHGS. Licensed movers are required to carry liability coverage for your belongings in transit. Our license number is Cal-T201700.
